Default Xbox One or PS4?

Note: I posted something similar to this in "Computer and Video Games", and got zero response, so I'll try it here... and quite possibly, as evidenced by the post's title, might start a huge feud here, so let's keep it light, okay?

Here's my sad story in a nutshell... I'm not a gamer. Simple. My last gaming systems were a PSP and a Game Boy, so that should tell you a lot...

About a year ago, I started viewing videos of gamers playing Grand Theft Auto V on the Pluto TV app on my tablet rather by accident (they've since removed the GTA V channel... fuckers. The Twitch app has a dedicated GTA V channel, but they all take themselves way too seriously, IMO.). But YouTube shortly thereafter filled with more GTA V videos. (In fact, I recently - finally - subscribed to VanossGaming, and his crew of gamers on YT. I liked how they can take a "serious" game and find humor in glitches, mods, and anything else they can unearth, and in the process, show just how versatile GTA V is, which is a hell of a promotional tool, turns out. In the process, I'm also a fan of the HikePlays channel.)

When I first saw the game, and everything it encompasses, I thought - and still do - that it's the greatest fucking video game ever, notonly in content, but in technical advances. And that planted a seed... though I'm not a gamer, I'm thinking I've got to find a way to get this and play it.

And now that seed has erupted into a raging flower (so to speak), and want to pull the trgger on a gaming system, of course the first game being GTA V.

I kinda doubt I'll turn into a full-fledged gamer (although game #2 would be FSX, if Microsoft would get off its ass and make a console or Windows 10 compatible version), but the two heavyweight systems out there intrigue me. I inherently lean towards the Xbox One, as it is a Microsoft product, and would seem to have tentacles that could reach into my Windows 10 as well as future applications going forward...

So gathering the above info and processing it, I put it to you...

Xbox One or PS4?

... and where to get one at a reasonable price? I have a $50 credit at Amazon, but would rather purchase brick-and-mortar style in case of issues and/or support questions...

Thank you for your input.

Personally, I prefer PS4, but that's only because I've been using Playstation since it was first introduced. I also find their controllers to be more comfortable than the Xbox controllers, which are too large and bulky for my tastes.

PS4 just released a slim model that retails for $249 w/500gb hard drive and comes with a game. (mine came with Uncharted 4). I think the Xbox one retails for about the same.

However, both consoles also released updated versions: The PS4 Pro & the Xbox One S. The PS4 Pro retails for $399 w/1tb hard drive & the Xbox One S. retails for $349 w/1tb hard drive or $299 w/500gb hd. Both models support 4k and should make you future proof for a long time, but the Xbox now has Windows 10 and I believe you can stream games across your console and pc, which may be what you are looking for. Plus, the $299 price (at Best Buy) is a really good deal.

There's really no right or wrong answer. Even though I prefer PS4, it looks like the new Xbox One S would be a better fit for you and what you are looking for, now that it's comes with Windows 10.

Oh, and I can confirm that GTA V is an awesome game. You will definitely like it.

Yeah, the price floor seems to be $299 (for the 500Gb models; not sure I'd need 1Tb)... it may come down to who's willing to break that floor first. Personally, I'd rather buy from Best Buy, as I'm one of their premier members (and I currently have a $5 gift certificate, and a $300+ purchase would certainly get me more), they love me since I spend so much money with them, and maybe most importantly, they price match Amazon pricing, so there may be some simpatico going on there...

If you are gonna get a PS4, I'd recommend you get the 1TB model as some games take up to 45-60GB of internal storage. I have a PS4 and I love the gaming experience as it's quite similar to the PS3. However I would avoid the Pro version as that version doesn't have a Blu-Ray video disc playback capabilities.

I thought it was only the 4K Blurays that it couldn't play. At least that is what I read a while ago.

Quick look around at some prices of the Xbox One S w/ Battlefield 1 Bundle (don't really care about Battlefield 1, but if it gets me a lower price...):

Walmart: $249.99, but it's an online price, and the bastards won't price match their own website (as of a few days ago, their in-store price is $299.99).

Toys R Us - $279.99.

Best Buy - $299, but they (supposedly) will price match Amazon prices, the current price there being $266.99.

Gonna wait on the Switch to see if it ends up being a return to form for Nintendo or another flop. PC gaming is where it's at for me currently. I have a PS3 and it's collecting dust.

I read that the PS4 Pro doesn't play Blu-Ray movies at all.

You read wrong. This is from Sonys Website:

It wouldn't be able to upscale standard Blu-ray if It couldn't play them. Kinda weird that they omitted 4K Blu-ray support when it supports 4K streaming video, though.

Let's try a different approach... honestly, I didn't even realize that GTA V had a PC version available, so would someone be kind enough to venture a guess (if not an informed opinion) as to whether or not the PC version is compatible with my laptop?

Specs
=====
OS: Windows 10
CPU: AMD A8-7410 Carrizo-L Quad-Core 2.5GHz 2MB Cache
Graphics: AMD Radeon R5 Integrated Graphics
RAM: 8 Gb
Current Free HD Space: ~ 819 Gb

Thank you.
